We started the seeds inside about the first of March. There were a
total of about 300 seedlings. The lights and heater (at right) were of
course on a timer. |
 |
Here are some seedlings straining to get more light. They're
very fragile. |
 |
Some of the heartier stuff went straight from seed into the ground.
Here are the beginnings of carrots, turnips, and radishes. |
 |
A little wider angle shot of the same as above. There are also
about six Rutgers tomato plants on the left. |
 |
Sugar peas, mustard greens, spinach, and Bibb lettuce. They're all
underground in seed form here, so there's not much to see. |
 |
The big green plants are the same as the shot above, now in their
above-ground, edible form. There are also peppers, tomatoes,
cauliflower, broccoli, and pole bean seedlings that aren't very clear (but
they're coming along nicely, too). |
 |
Some plants on the deck, and some new grass planted in front. I
brought in about 2 yards of dirt because the lawn wasn't level there.
After the dirt, I sowed new seed on top. |
 |
The house next door is vacant, but the owner allowed us to plant the
garden. Here we have another dozen or so tomato plants, some peppers, and
herbs galore. |
 |
This is on the top of hill in the front yard. There was apparently
a large tree here, but it was cut down many years ago. When I got the
house, it was a wasteland of unpleasant wild grasses and weeds bordered by
rocks. I took out the rocks, brought in new top soil, and spread grass
seed. Lingo likes to dig here. |
